Some of you need to chill out, honestly. Be thankful the band even allows recordings, and if you're really that distraught about no SBD's, go out and
buy some mk4's and make some badass AUD tapes. To bombard management with e-mail's is just immature. It's their decision. I highly doubt JP is that
concerned with what people on the board are saying about the taping policy, he has a job of his own to do, and he's damn good at it. And it's accurate
that an AUD tape best represents the concert, it captures the crowd much better, something soundboard recordings fail to do. Relax, people.

My thing is what postive thing does this do the band?
Higher Live album sales? Regular Album sales? MANY people got in to them because of tapes, give to friends, play in their cars, play at home etc, make mixes etc. It makes me want to see them more support them MORE, not less. It makes me look forward to every show of the tour, NOT only the ones I attend but all shows! "Things may not come when you want them to, but they will be Right On Time"- Marc Roberge |

not as high quality as the SBD's. it is more expensive to get high quality with AUD than SBD from what i've read. it is really only an inconvenience in
money for tapers. that's it; it's not the falling apart of a music community. if anyone stops listening to the band because of it, they are fuckheads.

It definitely sucks. I realize that it's a privilege and they can disallow taping all together but it's still a bummer that we'll see a drop in
tapings and quality of tapings in general.

Questioning the integrity or the longevity of the band in this thread is absolutely absurd. Think about what you are saying.
Do what I have done since January 2000.... tape with some mics. There are some amazing AUD recordings out there. |

sending/harassing drew with emails is pointless. he already said he would be posting more info about the situation soon.... just have some patience for once.
and i doubt it has anything to do with the label, since basically everfine = oar. everyone should just wait until an explanation before jumping to 1000x different conclusions |

I 100% support the fact that it is the band's decision to do as they wish and it is privilege not our right to tape SBD. That being said, I was a very
casual fan of OAR until one day I stumbled across archive.org and the recordings of my first 2 OAR shows that I had been to up until then. That and that alone
led me to be the fan that I am today, and I highly doubt I would have traveled half as far or gone to half as many shows as I have without being able to tape
them with the ease of a SBD recording. I spent a relatively descent amount of cash being able to do this, dealing with 3 JB3s as 1 was stolen and 2 were
broken, and while I don't regret this I now have a useless JB3 unless I decide to make the additional commitment to get gear which I may or may not do. If
I had to speculate I would say maybe low sales on the MSG cd while the MSG 1 archive recording (I realize this isn't really the number one download but
just a glitch of somekind) is the highest download on hte archive? I feel as though this is a null point as ATN is their highest selling album of alltime, but
either way it may be the logic that was used here. Regardless, as I said before I support the decision of the band, but really hope they know what they are
doing in making it. For many, the ability to record SBD was the key thing that seperated OAR from every other band.

Just did a quick count of shows that were taped in 2007...
20 SBD 7 Mixes 6 AUD Note that Sarnovsky didn't go to nearly as many shows as he usually does due to his hectic work schedule last year, which would have resulted in several more AUD tapes. |

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
I'd love to get some mics for AUD tapes, but fact is, it's a really low priority cash-wise. And even then, most mics people start out with sound like poop. There's only a few people around that have the kind of mics that actually make an AUD tape sound damn good. You gotta drop some serious cash to make those tapes sound decent. It was nice not having to deal with the hassle of hauling in a giant bag of crap and stands, being sure to get there early so you had a place to set up and then worry the whole show about some retard falling in to your equipment. It's exactly the reason I never wanted to bother with mics. It was certainly generous of the band to allow the feeds for so long, but the reasoning on the explanation sucks donkey balls. At least just come out and say "we're playing at major venues now and we can't be allowing people access to the board area" or something reasonable. All of sudden AUD recordings sound better? BS. The other shitty part of this is the number of shows that do get taped will probably drop significantly. Just look at the stats Aaron posted above. But hey, on the bright side - maybe Red Light Management can start selling us live O.A.R. albums for $20 every 4 months like they do for DMB's Live Trax series. Woot! |

maybe it's the beginning of a live series type thing.. (phish has one, dmb has one)
i definitely think a live series of cd's would be a great idea that would totally outweigh any downfalls of no sbd recordings -bryan-

i have liked OAR since waaaaaay back when.
this is very unfortuante to have to hear it from management and not "the guys". and truth be told in the society we live in today i'm not sure if we will get a true answer, which is unfortuante. so this leaves a couple avenues avaialbe: buy expensive gear and have to beat the shit out of drunkards at shows when they spill beer on your 10k audio equipment buy crappy gear and not even bother taping just go to their shows and expeirence it first hand and not buy anymore cd's or remember the days of how it used to be and move on truely unfortuante this turn of events, maybe this new policy will change when the dollar amount the labels see in the bank account lowers after all, from the many interviews OAR does understand where they got the majorfan base from which is tape tradeing..... so you can do the math from there
"GET A MAC" an apple a day, keeps the PC tech guy away

A live series wouldn't be better than free shows, like Jamie said. But for me at least, it'd be an acceptable explanation.
