Fagsborough is returning to UNC. Another year of hearing about how he never takes a play off and works harder than everyone. :stabbingmyselfintheeye

final 4 is a terrible season. you're right.
and no one has ever said hansborough will be a star in the pro. he'll be a solid player that will give someone quality minutes, most likely off the bench. he knows he's not gonna be a force, why would he leave in the first place? |

Who has said he'll be good in the pros? He's too little and too slow. Everyone knows that.

So, right now it seems like the only big names that are not declaring for the draft are Hansborough (and Griffin, if you consider him a big name)....I think I
saw taht there have been 41 underclassmen declare for the draft...not sure how many actually signed with agents, though...

After 34 years, CBS' Packer done with Final Four, reports say ESPN.com news services Updated: July 14, 2008, 10:27 AM ET Comment Billy Packer's streak of Final Fours is over after 34 years. [+] EnlargeAP Photo/Michael Conroy Billy Packer will reportedly be replaced by CBS studio analyst Clark Kellogg. Packer, a color commentator, will be replaced in CBS' coverage by studio analyst Clark Kellogg, according to media reports Monday. Jim Nantz will continue in his Final Four play-by-play role. Packer, 68, will leave CBS after 28 years to pursue "other projects in basketball," according to The Miami Herald. An announcement was expected Monday. Speculation of Packer's exit was fueled amid widespread criticism during this year's tournament. Early in the 2008 semifinal between Kansas and North Carolina, with the Jayhawks up 38-12, Packer declared, "The game is over." North Carolina cut the lead to 54-50 with 11 minutes left before Kansas pulled away, winning 84-66. The Jayhawks beat Memphis 75-68 to claim the national title. Packer, who began his Final Four run at NBC, later defended the comment to USA Today. "My job is to say what I see, not have some kind of subconscious feelings about offending anybody. ... It probably annoyed some people, but I don't concern myself with having some agenda that's contrary to what I'm seeing," he said. |

I think this is bullshit:
Article from Dick Vitale after Kentucky signed a 15 year old player: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- May 7, 2008 The world of college basketball recruiting is absolutely wacky. Recently an eighth grader decided on his college choice. OK, he has a few years before he will be hitting the campus, but this story is wild. Michael Avery from Lake Sherwood, Calif. made headlines by verbally committing to Kentucky and coach Billy Gillispie. Avery was at a basketball camp and Gillispie liked him enough to offer him a college scholarship. Meanwhile the young man is still undecided about which high school he will attend! I'll tell you what is next. We are going to have some coach looking at a great athlete who just produced a child. The coach can go to the nursery, check out a true diaper dandy, look at the size of his feet and offer him a scholarship! Yes, I am just kidding, but you have to wonder to what lengths people will go to recruit! Think about what can happen for an eighth grader between now and college. It is five years, but the kid has lock city with a firm offer of a scholarship. Gillispie made the offer, but I don't think it is healthy and good for college basketball. When I was coaching and recruiting for Rutgers and then Detroit, you heard about young players around their sophomore year. The world has changed. There are so many recruiting services that rate players, even kids in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades. There is so much evaluation and you are aware of every name possible. Guys make their living doing this. People like Bob Gibbons, Clark Francis and Tom Konchalski over the years have done a super job. You can get list after list of recruits. Kentucky got a lot of headlines out of the Avery story. The bottom line is that this is not good for the game. Article From Dick Vitale after Florida signs a 15 year old player: -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 10, 2008 Billy Donovan struck gold once again! He can flat-out recruit … he's a salesman deluxe, baby! You'd better believe his reputation helps as players have an incredible desire to compete for him. It is a great asset in the recruiting wars. It also helps to win basketball games and the two national championships on his resume certainly stand out. They help his credibility as a teacher, motivator and winner. Recently he received a verbal commitment from Doc Rivers' son, Austin, to attend Florida. That's right, the same Doc Rivers who stood tall with the gold trophy as the Celtics responded from a disastrous season in 2006-07 to capture the NBA championship in 2007-08! Austin, at age 15, is a future PTPer. Austin Rivers just completed the ninth grade and he became the youngest recruit to commit to Donovan. Rivers also competed at a Steve Nash Skills Academy, telling you a lot about his potential. He comes from some great stock as his dad was a special, intense competitor as a player at Marquette. Austin's brother, Jeremiah, played at Georgetown before recently transferring to Indiana. Doc's daughter, Callie, is a standout on Florida's volleyball team. The one thing I can say about the Rivers family is the ability to create motivated youngsters is impressive. It is a win-win situation for the Gators, the Rivers family, and a young man who gets to play for a coach that relates well to the modern-day athlete. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think it's a bunch of shit. I think Pat Forde said it well on ESPN the other day - "it's only news if UK does it". When other schools do it - it's just part of the game. When UK does it - they must be doing something dirty. I love how Vitale completely changed his opinion on the matter in two months. Even after the NABC came out against recruiting of young kids. |

i generally welcome any and all Kentucky bashing with open arms, but i'm afraid i'm with you on this one.
i think there should be a rule that limits the offering of scholarships until the summer before the kid's senior year. |

It wouldn't bother me if they could get scholarships after freshman year. At least that gives them a year in high school but I think in interest of the
players it should be later like Dooz said.

Austin's brother, Jeremiah, played at Georgetown before recently transferring to Indiana. i didn't know there were actually people that were trying to transfer into IU right now. there's one guy from last year still there, and he was a walk-on now on a scholarship (i think). |
