I know bands will hire better musicians to play for the studio version of an album. (Musicians who are better at keeping time, etc.)

I think he was talking more about getting different equipment or switching the sound up of the instruments.

Also I didn't think they really do that MrBrown07, not meaning your wrong, but wouldn't that be like "Mili Vinili" (wrong spelling) of instrumentals. I don't know what "serious" band that would do that and be okay with it.

What MrBrown07 said was exactly what I meant and no, at least in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with it. First let me clarify, their bringing in musicians to dub has only been for SOAS and IBNT (I'm positive about those two, but its possible that they did it for Risen also).

Why is there nothing wrong with it? First, its common and accepted in the industry as Mr Brown said. Second, we all agree they're better live (more energetic, though not technically better).

OAR has creative songwriting and they're among the best performers I've ever seen. There's nothing wrong with recording an album and than bringing in better instrumentalists to bring it from great to perfect. If anything, its respect for the listener, because (at least on SOAS), they're clearly citing that they brought in dubbers, and they're paying others to reach a level of perfection that they could not otherwise.

I'll tell you something else that's in almost all professionally recorded music. Singers will sing many takes (40+ for each part of a song is an approproiate number) and than the producer will break it apart for not just the best takes but the best syllables and replace the bad syllables, so in essence, Ashly Simpson isn't really hitting every one of those notes right on pitch (this is common for extremely talented singers also). Is that, or is hiring a good producer any different than bringing in professional musicians and crediting them for their work as OAR has done on SOAS. There is nothing wrong with it. Its art and they are paying to make it perfect.

As I said, I don't love OAR for their technical instrumental ability; I'm a diehard fan for their originality, amazing songs and incredible concerts.

Very simple. The band records the song. They they bring in better musicians to dub all their parts to make it perfect.

These are musicians with a better sense of rythm and frankly, more ability. Open up SOAS and read the long list of guest musicians. Watch the IBNT DVD and you'll see the band playing in studio. You'll also see some old producer guy with (if I remember correctly) a retro Braves hat playing drums, bass and I think guitar (I forgot). I don't know anything about this guy, but he's playing drums to do exactly what Chris just did, but make it perfectly on rythm.

Another example, though I'll admit, I'm not positive about this second one. Remember the line in IBNT when one of the producers said to the camera, something like "we've decided that it would be best if I play all the acoustic parts on the album?" That guy looked a little like Jerry, so if it was Jerry (tiny chance) than I apologize, but I believe it was one of the producers who has more ability to play perfectly on rythm than Marc/Richard and thus is playing the acoustic parts that the listner assumes is Marc/Richard. As I said before, its really not that bad. Dave Matthews used to have his accoustic parts dubbed also (a long time ago, he got better).
