Young man loved his new motorcycle
Driver charged in fatal crash

A trip to the store for a soda turned deadly for a young Ingleside man Sunday when another driver made an illegal turn in front of his motorcycle.

Family say 24-year-old Jordan Styx was very bright and had a promising future before he was killed Sunday evening on Monaville Road in Lake Villa.
"He was very smart," Jordan's father, John Styx, said Monday. "He was very particular about things he did. There was no project he couldn't read a book about and do."
Styx was riding his Honda motorcycle east on Monaville near Old Monaville Road around 7:20 p.m. when a westbound Oldsmobile Alero driven by Steven Kinderman, 23, of Round Lake Beach turned in front of him, said Sgt. Christopher Thompson of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Styx, who was wearing a helmet, struck the Alero on the front passenger side. He was taken to Advocate Lutheran Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was later pronounced dead.
Kinderman has been charged with failure to yield while turning left. Drug and alcohol results are pending, Thompson said.

Styx had been riding his motorcycle everywhere, his father said. He bought the bike four months ago after watching his older bothers ride for years. On Styx's myspace.com Web page -- which was full of solemn messages from friends by Monday afternoon -- he prominently featured a photo of his motorcycle.
On Sunday, Styx participated in a large motorcycle ride in Chicago before retuning to Lake County and stopping for a soda on his way home.

He worked as a financial analyst for the Baxter Credit Union. He was a 2006 graduate of Illinois State University, where he majored in finance, and was a varsity pole vaulter for the Red Birds' track team. The 2001 Grant High School graduate was also a star pole vaulter in high school.

Styx is survived by his parents, John and Therese, and five siblings.
"We want to ask 'why,' and there's no answer to that question," John said. "We're confident that God has the right thing in mind."
Memorial services are scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Justen's Funeral Home, 222 N Rosedale Court, Round Lake. Visitation and funeral will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at The Chapel, 25270 W. Route 60, Grayslake.
