Just go to a show...OAR already is a fad band to an
extent. The loudest pop is usually for "Crazy
Game", thats the song people know most. The band
isnt changing anything...but as they do more and better
music you get more and more fringe fans. there is nothing
wrong with that. hopefully the new fans know how to drink
a little better than most of the drunken morons that dont
know how to handle their first buzz.

I agree. I think everything will be cool as long as
they do it on their terms.
Just recently I was thinking about it, it's not like im gonna stop listening to their music or anything. The one thing I don't want to see changed (and I know they wont change it) are the live shows. It's cool with me if they come out with some radio friendly songs, As long as Jerry and the rest of the guys keep up with the sick solos. Also, I hope I will always be able to go to oarsa and check the setlist to see how last night's show was... PSU Football - Returning to the glory

ok, o.a.r. goes mainstream.... and? like what are
they gonna start acting snobbish and like play one hour
sets and then hop on their newly purchased helicopter and
take off from on top of the venue and then fly down to
mexico to play a set? no. nothing will change about the
band at all, they will just have new songs, with new
fans. i dont think they will change anything about their
frequent tours and their awesome sets.i'm still going to
see them every chance i get and i'm sure we all will. but
the only thing that kind of worries me is that i still
want them to play the 3000-4000 person shows. (even
better irving plaza again!). i dont know but i just love
the more personable shows. but if they were to play msg
instead of hammerstein (benj said something about that
when we were talking with him after the show in
conneticut) im sure i would buy floor tickets and still
be 2 rows from the stage. but as a fan, im not going to
change, and as a band, o.a.r. surely isnt going to change
once they hit the mainstream.

haha, this is definetely beating a dead horse. we
had the same discussion back when IBNT came out and the
same ppl that complained they were going
"mainstream" in one post thought it was
cool to see them in rolling stone in another post. all
"going mainstream" really means is that
a lot more ppl know about them and enjoy their music...
how can that possibly be a bad thing? so many of us are
members of the street team, whose sole purpose is to get
the word out about them to as many ppl as possible, thus
in a way making
them mainstream!
oh, and as for those of you complaining about the pokerheads... well go back and listen to shows from '99 and 2000... people have ALWAYS chanted poker. its not necessarily b/c its the only song they know, its because its a damn good one and they want to hear it

i remember seeing o.a.r. at this tiny bar called
the blue bird at iu with barely a crowd. to see what
they've accomplished now is mesmerizing to me. this album
is going to be huge for them and i wish them all the
best. anyone else worried about them going mainstream?
get over it and stop being selfish, only good things can
come from it.

OAR isn't the same band they were even 3 years ago
and I don't expect them to ever break into mainstream.
They were much better as a college type band with fairly
simple lyrics that were easy to sing to (missing pieces,
untitled, landalay, etc). I honestly don't like any of
their new songs.
I guess its good that they've matured and want to play more mature music, but i don't care for it nearly as much as the old stuff. But, i'm not the same person i was in college so i can't blame em..i just don't think their new stuff will get far...i think they still are living off the popularity of their first 3 albums and will continue to use those old songs to hang onto audiences. Believe me i want O.A.R. to have lots of success
because i know damn well that they deserve it. I was just
saying I hope once they really hit the big time that not
every person at their concerts will be screaming play
poker. But I do hope they pick up a ton of new fans with
their new cd that will love them for all of their great
songs, not just one. Sorry if i made it seem like i didnt
want O.A.R. to have success, because i do, every time i
talk music with anyone i always bring up o.a.r. and tell
the person they should check them out.

-yea burton i know thats already the case but generally there are just as many people there to hear the bands other songs. I dont want the pokerheads to own the show. |
