o.a.r.'s success |
Lead | |||
|
I love o.a.r. and have been a fan for a long time.
However, while i do want the band to be very successful,
i kinda worry about them going mainstream. I mean i dont
want them to become a fad band where people just start
randomely jumping on the bandwagon because mtv says there
good. I dont want the average fan to be a ( i heard that
song about poker by them now i love them) person. Because
then i think it will ruin what it means to be a real fan
and appreciate there songs that have deep meaning. I dont
know, does anyone else have this feeling
sometimes.

they already are mainstream...then they lay lowed,
and now they are going mainstream again (The
Stranger)
yeah, i can see why you can be a little upset, but face it, OAR is a good band, and theyre tired of hearing shit like "you only have 2 songs" -ryan ![]() |

i was thinking the same thing after i got back from
merriweather, its great that their getting big, but they
went from 19 fans at a show to 19,000 fans in what seemed
like a second
i remember going to their shows at the recher in towson, md, where amature bands will play like 5 songs only but you have to understand they are a great band, and their music needs to be heard at least you'll always be able to say you were a true fan from the beginning

oh yea i know they are great and deserve lots of
success. I just hate when bands become really famous and
everyone whos ever seen mtv claims to be there biggest
fan when all they know is there hook song. However you
are right, there music does deserve to be known by the
world, i just hope they stay true to their roots and are
always as good to their true fans as they are now.

I doubt they will be doing Pepsi commercials
anytime soon, or hosting TRL, so we'll be alright.

once they become popular with this album, people
will hear the rest of their music and become real
fans..i.e. people, like me, that wasnt a huge dmb fan
until i heard a few songs on the radio and stuff..now
they're my favorite band..so i think it will help
definitely

with you, that I hope it doesnt change there style, but I

Dude, not to be rude or anything, but if the new
fans claiming they're "O.A.R.'s oldest and
biggest fan" is your biggest problem, be
thankful.
I totally geek out when I go to a show and they've hit yet another level. I saw 2 of the DMB shows last summer and I think I watched the crowd 90% of the time with a big ass grin on my face b/c I was so happy for them. Just relax anytime someone new gets on your nerves and just welcome them into the fold... -Mike ![]() |

Hey Congrats for being the 184,324 person to have
this oh so original thought.
Also, your third grade teacher would probably have a breakdown if she saw your butchering of the English language. How hard is it to learn the difference between "there" and "their"? I think they tried to teach it to a retarded chimp and he had it down in 3 hours and that included the 30 minutes he spent furiously masturbating and the brief session of poo throwing. Jamie |

boy i sure hate those indie posers...
![]() "hey check it out, i love the postal service, i am soo indie omg" "thats awesome, do you have the dispatch album?" "huh?" to quote someone else on this board, we need to fill some pillowcases with batteries and go to town on those people.. OAR is still not-mainstream enough where a lot of people have no idea who they are, but a good deal do.. better than people know dispatch or state radio.. and by the way, i heard "Risen" on VH1 once... I don't really think that OAR has hit the
mainstream quite yet. At least in Maryland, their home
town, they don't get any airplay. Maybe in other areas,
but i don't see it.
Yes they are with a real deal record label and getting advertising and marketing from them, but i just don't see OAR becoming this MTV, TRL, RollingStone cover type of band. Don't get me wrong, it would be awesome to see the boys get to that level. But i dunno, i just dont see it. and bader stop being a bitch It's Just...Whatever.

Quote: I feel this way too. When I am at an OAR show... and every concert and every year there are more and more people... that blows my mind. I love seeing thousands of poeple sing along and dance. Remeber, not everyone can be OARs first fan. I love to see them grow and just become this amazing band. All that matters is that you know you were there as early as you were, seeing as many shows as you did, and supporting them as much as possible. Next time your at a concert... look around and try and remember what it was like your first concert. Look at how many people are now there loving OAR. Just be happy for the guys and look what they did for themselves. This is truely a band starting from nothing and being extremely successful with hard work and love for music. Dont get me wrong, I am not into mainstream music. I dont listen to the radio, I dont watch MTV, etc... But for most people, thats how they hear of great bands like OAR. Now go and get right down with the saxophone
man com'on...

LET'S CHANGE OUR ATTITUDE!!!! | #20 |
|
||
|
How about if we stop the "O.A.R. is going
mainstream" and change it to "O.A.R. is
defining the future of mainstream." If the new
CD sells really well and they get a lot of attention, it
will be because they have done it on their terms and
their way. This is a serious revolution ( not to be corny
) in an industry that is being run by BIG dollar whores
and promotion companies. Though O.A.R. has a LAVA
distribution contract, they did not sell their souls to
get it. They still retain artistic control.
Their success has come from their HARD work, so if "Stranger" is successfull, then it will be because O.A.R. has reached a success on their own terms, not with the aid of corporate whores. So let them be successful and let them have huge shows and ENJOY the fact that have done so ON THEIR OWN TERMS! AND enjoy the fact that they are scaring the crap out of the corporate whores by paving a way for future INDY bands! ![]() |
