Before I pass judgement, I want to see how big that flag is compared to her office. Me guessing that the flag is huge. When I first read that article I had the
same reaction, as in "fuck that. this is america, how can the american flag be offensive?" but after thinking about it, if the flag is ridiculously
huge for that office, I would probably want it taken down too.

The end of the article states its a dispute over the size of the flag, and not the flag itself.

so me and my colleagues are at lunch today and one just returned from a trip to the dominican. another one of our colleagues is extremely familiar with the
dominican because she goes like once or twice a year. and pretty much out of nowhere she offered this little tidbit:
"if you cut yourself on the coral while diving in the dominican, they will leave you there. because they are so close to haiti and that's where AIDS started." my reaction? i was done eating so i merely swept the crumbs onto my plate, pursed my lips and narrowed my eyes to a slit, started to shake my head then stopped, glanced at a colleague to see if they were feeling the vibe i was giving out, got nothing in return and softly said, "excuse me" and pushed my chair back and left. naturally i went back and wiki'd HIV and while that statement was not documented, i did find this. In high-income countries, the risk of female-to-male transmission is 0.04% per act and male-to-female transmission is 0.08% per act. For various reasons, these rates are 4 to 10 times higher in low-income countries. am i reading that right in that the odds of you contracting HIV from someone with HIV during non-safe sexual activity is less than 1%? that's pretty incredible if that's true. |
