Posts: 1123 09/11/2009 1:13 AM	Sharkey - you have reason to be pissed. You pulled off a trade and it wasn't your fault the offer wasn't as good as some others out there. Your trade doesn't damage the integrity of the league, however as Tigerfan is a new owner and admittedly doesn't know what he's doing, I'm going to vote to veto the trade. I spoke to him in trade chat and he seems to be embarrassed about the incident but I think he deserves a mulligan. He's trying to rebuild his franchise and he could really use a better trade to do it. As far as PVC goes, he isn't worried about telling anyone exactly how he feels and doesn't worry about the repercussions. He's a total douche but he's consistent. ---------------- Rob

But since I've seen way worse trades in the league (this isn't even as bad as people make it out to be, he's getting 2 surefire MLers and 1 fringe player), I have no intention of doing that.

Posts: 3187 09/11/2009 9:00 AM Oh Ay Aaargh	For the record, I vetoed. I don't see two sure fire MLers. The RP is the only one I could ever see making my ML roster. And a guy that can only pitch 60 or so innings (admittedly really well-pitched innings) isn't enough for a #1 SP in his prime - especially when the guy is saying he doesn't really know what he's doing yet. I really don't think the new guy needs to trade Infante to rebuild since he's still young. But if he did want to trade him he should really advertise that he's looking to move him and he'd pull in a lot more offers. (personally I don't think he should be doing any trading though until he gets a better grasp on the ratings.) Also for the record - benny's deal wasn't all that much better because the young pitchers he offered weren't all that special. If pvc really offered what he said - that was a pretty good deal. For whatever its worth - I have no interest in Infante so there's no ulterior motive to veto. I have like $1 million free in my budget right now and need to keep my payroll as low as possible the next 5 years since I broke the bank for Ramirez. I just think a new owner made a bad trade that is going to set him back a couple years. Edit: I'll also add now that the trade has gone through that its not the end of the world or anything either though like benny and pvc are carrying on. Posts: 16829 09/11/2009 4:54 PM Captain America	Mota is definitely an ML player. He may not be an allstar, but to say could never make an ML roster is a silly statement. And Harris only pitches 60-70 IP per season, and I'm sure every team in this world would take him. And despite what you did to me in the NLCS last season, I thought with my offseason moves this year I could beat you in the playoffs, even with you adding Ramirez. I confirmed my beliefs in our series the other day. And getting Infante makes me legitimately believe I'm the clear #2 in the NL, and have a very very good shot at returning to the world series this season.

Posts: 938 09/11/2009 5:06 PM	It certainly wasn't a great trade by any means, but I didn't think it was veto worthy. When the world started, we all had to go through the same learning curve CC is going through now. In fact for the first three or four seasons, PVC probably had a far better idea of how the ratings worked than any of the rest of us did. I don't know if he would have won four of the first six world series if we all had a better idea of what it took to win in this game. I don't recall him complaining about the competitive advantage he had back then ---------- John

Posts: 16832 09/11/2009 5:14 PM Captain America	That's exactly my biggest problem with his entire crusade the last two days. That guy took advantage of a self-advertised "rookie world" to create a dynasty out of a lineup featuring Bryant, Kubenka & a bunch of average players. He abused a loophole none of us knew (the training budget) and executed some seriously shady trades in his own right (the Mottola deal immediately jumps to mind). And, the guy also recruited another owner (kjmulli) to join the world, and then immediately colluded with the owner, until it was blatantly obvious what was going on, and then that owner quit. Dude needs to get off my back. I wish Logan were still in the world. As much as he hated seeing me improve, and he'd hate the trade, he hated pvc even more, and he would be ripping pvc to shreds right about now.

Posts: 18083 09/11/2009 6:25 PM Rookie Of The Year	Quick jaunt from the honeymoon... Mota, while an ML player, is not a centerpiece of a trade, but more or less a throw in type player. Nobody would mind him for ML minimum at bats, but once he hits arbitration, there are usually free agents that are comparable. When I think of someone trading away a superstar, I want to see either two people you would sign long term, or one long term and one good vet. I believe that Sharkey wasn't thinking any malice, but might have known even a little that he was getting a super deal. He gave quality, albeit nothing spectacular, for someone signed cheap and long term. That might be my biggest gripe is that I don't think someone with 2 years of experience realizes the need for cheap and long term like Infante is. He's not bad but like Bader said better than me...he's not someone you'd build a team around. Shoot, you signed Henry Etherton for $870k this season because nobody else wanted him late into free agency and all his ratings are better than Mota. In other news - I think its just about time for Robin Becker to make his ML debut any day now. I wanted to get him one development cycle in AAA before I called him up since he was only in AA last season. Should make my offense even more potent and I think I'm 2nd in the league in hitting right now to go along with my #1 pitching staff.

Posts: 16834 09/11/2009 8:58 PM Captain America	I'll preface this by saying I've been told I'm nearly impossible to trade with, because I overvalue my own players an insane amount, but... I can honestly say, in response to bader saying I knew I was getting a great deal, that that is not true. I obviously approved of the deal, but CC had to talk me into giving up as much as I did, and even then I was extremely hesitant to pull the trigger. I have a hard time justifying giving up 3 guys that I have built into my ML future for 1 player at any point, especially if that one player is never going to give me a) 600+ really good ABs or b) 200+ really good IP. For as great as Infante is, he's not going to ever pitch 200, and he's not going to ever start more than 2 games in a playoff series. I know that may not be important to a lot of people, but to me thats the most important thing about a pitcher. Which is why I didn't want to give up as much as I did for Infante, and why even now he's not my #1 pitcher (Jenner still is) because he's never going to steal a playoff series for me.

In a public world there was an alias, here is how bad it was: The Alias was in the same division as the cheating owner, traded him his best players and prospects over the course of a season. The trades were called out as bogus but not enough owners wanted to use the veto to stop them so the first few trades went through. Eventually it was so clear that team A was an alias to team B that no more trades went through. Team B put his new young talent but sent it to the minors and proceeded to lose every game possible until he had was in dead last with top waiver priority. Towards the end of the season Team A(the alias) places on waivers his top two remaining players. Team B claims them. This sends outrage through the league Team A puts up a post saying it was a mistake and he didn't mean to do it but he's a first year owner and didn't know any better. Team B laughs to the bank. An owner in the world, who is not me, sends in a help ticket to admin and says hey these guys are obviously the same person can you look into this? The whole season Team A and Team B have maintained that they are not an alias and have made no mention of being pals or anything. Admin comes back that they have the same IP address and that they asked the two teams what the deal is and they said "roomates" Team A in one season traded several top players to team B, then when trades were questioned accidently waived his remaining top players and Team B was in last to claim them. Team A decides he doesn't like whatifsports and never comes back again. Team B now ripe with all this stolen talent competes for the playoffs the following season, comes in sixth and makes the playoffs. Wins his first series and goes on a tirad about how great he is, wins another series and continues rubbing it in everyones face. Owners start reminding him that he is a cheater and had an alias he doesn't care. I post saying he is a cheater, had an alias, and should not be allowed to play in whatifsports period... and my posting rights are revoked as a terms of service violation, admin says I can not accuse anyone of cheating or being an alias. Oh yeah, and Team B just won the world series. Have been contacted about it, privately. The owner(s) in question is benny_b_la. What do I do?

I haven't read through that thread (will do it now though). As for what to do, that's tough. I can't say I've noticed anything fishy from benny in our league.

I wasn't thinking along the lines of should I not allow him, b/c until I see anything bad from him, he's in. He's been in our league for like 9 seasons now. Obviously I'll be monitoring him more closely from here on out, and won't accept anyone he recommends. More like wondering if I should confront him (via tradechat or sitemail) about it, letting him know that I know. For now, I think I'm gonna keep quiet. The nice thing about pub24 being in that world is that b/w the 8 of us, or however many we are, nothing is going to slip b/w the cracks in this world. It's like having 7 co-commishes, lol
