i think a lot depends on where you're at. i'm willing to spend a lot on footsie and would offer ramirez a max deal. however, i have like one or two
guys in the minors that i'd ever feel comfortable with as ML starters. the only way to get high quality ML starters is through IFA or FAs. obviously,
IFA's are a better deal but if you need pitching now, and not three to five years from now, you don't have another option.

Definitely agree that $20 mil plus $10 mil bonus was a guarantee for Ramirez.
I'm with you tele, to me it's better to overpay for a great pitcher than to save a significant amount of money and not get that sort of production. With Footsie though, I didn't want to commit that sort of money this year knowing that we will probably see similar FAs like Footsie (below Ramirez level) next year and to follow. |

Footsie signs:
$5,000,000 Signing Bonus 10: $15,000,000 11: $16,900,000 12: $17,900,000 13: $17,900,000 14: $17,000,000 So it averages out to around $17,900,000 per year for five years. Max deal is $22,000,000 per year. Between the Footsie, JR Lankford, and Luis Pulido signings, and Bader rebuilding, I had better win the North. |

Yeah I think Tele moved to the front of the North, at least for this year.

Poor Cummings.
I am torn between two deal for Hernandez. Hernandez and $3.5mil for Charley Shannon Jackie Peterson or Hernandez for Tim Payton Hideo Chen Peterson is pretty much a 3B prospect, even though he shows up at SS. I have Curtis sitting at 3B for more years to come. Shannon still has room to grow but his pitchers are iffy at best. Both have great health. The $3.5mil means $2mil more to spend on IFAs. Payton will be a great hitting catcher, but I like having a good defensive catcher, and his ratings are lower than what I like. Chen is pretty much topped out, but could help my bullpen in a year or two. Someone make the decision for me. joe.bader@gmail.com AIM - badercubed www.badercubed.com

What was it?
I was considering holding on to him until the season was underway a little and figured some injuries might increase his value. He would go to Cleveland by that time assuming you are beating the rebuilding Rochester. joe.bader@gmail.com AIM - badercubed www.badercubed.com

I like the Jax deal if only b/c you're not giving away money. But neither blow me away. I agree, with your team not expected to get off to the greatest
start, I'd wait until 25 games in, when the trade decline options reset to the current season, and you'll be able to negotiate with a lot more teams.
Teams like Salt Lake City, Cleveland, New York, Fargo, etc, would probably be more than willing to jump into a Hernandez sweepstakes, and offer a lot more than
Jax or NO would.

And for the record, I agree with tele 100%, and I think for his franchise, at this point in time for his team (and his division), that is a great signing, and
should lead to multiple division titles.
And I really wanted Pulido. I think he's way better than his stats indicate. |

Mothereffer, never ended up getting my Rule 5 stuff taken care of. I'll probably end up losing Julio Ortiz. If one of you guys grabs him, I'd trade
back for him assuming you like someone else in my system.

I think the league (NL) is going to be a lot more balanced this year. A lot of average teams made some good moves to improve and some of the big name teams
might slip a few games worse this year. Should make for a fun ride. I feel like this is my year but since I've never had any playoff success its hard for
me to get too confident.
Also for Rule 5, I just glanced quickly but looked like KC left a couple good players unprotected as well. Uncharacteristic mistake for him. |

Another reason I went a little crazy this offseason was because I had a #9 draft pick this year, so I knew I wouldn't lose that. I lost my 2nd and 3rd
round picks and that's all. Plus, I got a supplemental pick for losing a type B. I think I have #9 and #51 this year and that's all I really care to
have. Texas gets four extra picks thanks to me.
I will be interested to see how quickly Ramirez signs. He'll probably get at least 2 max deals right away...how will he react to that? That could have a big impact on what kind of compensation the other team gets. |

I'm really not sure that the free agent classes aren't always going to be like it was this year. Big names this year and then next year you have Chris Ramirez, Billy Hernandez, Antone Robbins and I'm sure others that I don't know about. I wonder if people will eventually realize they don't have to spend a fortune because another good player will be available next season or if we'll eventually have 20+ players making over $15 million a season. |

I think Robbins will go fairly cheaply next year b/c he'll be overlooked by a lot of the other offensive talent that's going to be out there.
Nicholas Bryant Ronald Watson Wes Robertson Jay Peters Bernie Hudson Luis Reyes As far as pitchers go, Ramirez is obviously in a league of his own. But there aren't even that many other good pitchers next year. The only two that immediately caught my eye were: Brad Tankersly (who could take in the biggest reliever contract ever) Dario Suzuki |
