Did you guys notice the checkbox to disallow lossy conversions of the shows to be made?

What the hell is going on at archive.org??? :shrug

I cannot believe they are gonna make 64Kbps MP3 readily available. :td

that page just got really confusing. :td

to all the .mp3 files. How much time does it take you to convert shn > wav > mp3? ...not much. Why do they want to promote lossy files? :shrug

it's all about attracting people who don't care to use shn. The people we look down on. I've been checking to not make lossy formats. I hope everyone else is too.

mp3's over 128 dont sound too bad, but 64kbs is awful :barf

Ya, wasnt the point of etree to spread losless content in the first place? This goes against their entire basis.

but on another note....

does anyone know the whearabouts of the 1/17/01 show at northberg tavern? its out there somewhere, but not on any servers as far as i know. If anyone has it ti would be a good one to get on etree.

The thing is, etree only has a little to do with this, it is actually archive.org's doing. Well at least from my understanding...

Yeah that's true.

However I sure hope that if they decide to go the MP3 route, that etree pulls out it's association with the Archive.

I know that if they MP3 my shows, I won't hesitate a second to ask them to remove all my sources. I know a few tapers who have done this already. I just think it defeats the purpose of an "archive". But this is like preaching to the choir, as I'm sure we all agree.

They are supposed to have a way for tapers to login and set all their shows to no mp3. Then you just have to remember to do that for every show uploaded...

Just did that for all my shows. Go to the details page of your source, click on Edit Details on the left hand side. Click the option to not allow lossless sources.

Then click update.

That's it.

Hopefully that'll be it..... now what to do with my shows that others uploaded. :hmm

They are supposed to make a way for you to contact the person that uploaded the show, to have them check the box. I doubt this will work very well, and then at that point, an admin of the site is supposed to do it for you...
This is all off of their messageboard so I have no clue really...
