I saw a place on the food network right in Portland where the show is that's supposed to be amazing food. It's called "the porthole"

Tons of restaurants to eat at, lots of bars if you are of age, shopping, minor league baseball, etc. If you are looking for any recommendations I'd be glad to help you out. I'll be at the show as well, can't wait!

Posts: 190 Aug 15 12 12:17 AM	Yeah its like half a mile from my house. Great little place.. I have been more often for breakfast surprisingly but the lunch/dinner is great too. Liking seafood helps haha. It's probably a mile or so from the State Theater (the venue of the show). Portland has had a few of its restaurants end up on national tv shows like that... Nosh was another one on Man vs Food. That place is crazy good.. if the phrase "bacon dusted fries" excites you? That's your place. Otto's Pizza gained some national tv exposure as well - specializing in non traditional pizza but still serving "normal" pizza as well. Mashed Potato/Bacon/Scallion pizza? Yup. Three Cheese Tortellini (yeah mac n' cheese pizza haha)? Mmhmm. Both of those places are two or three blocks from the venue. Anyway there are tons of places to eat within a mile of the venue in any type of food you are looking for.

The Old Port - which is the downtown area where all the restaurants that have been mentioned are located - has a ton of shops and stores for shopping. There is a ferry line - Casco Bay Lines - that would take you out to a few of the islands off the coast (Little Diamond being one of those mentioned by bimjelizle05). There are Duck Tours that will drive you all through the city and then out into the Bay on a sightseeing tour which I hear is pretty cool but I have never taken it. Not sure if you are 21 or not but if you are - even if you arent I suppose - I would visit The Shipyard Brewery. It is less than half a mile from the PortHole, has a nice little giftshop, and they give tours of their brewery every hour on the hour. Free sampling after tour as well if you are of age haha. If you havent, and this is for anyone out there, try the Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale. It has a cult following around these parts. You could also go out to Fort Williams/Portland Headlight. Excellent lighthouse and old fort to explore on the water that has a walking trail and lots of awesome views. Also lots of picnic areas.. worse things to do than grab some lunch and bring it out there for an afternoon. It is a few miles from downtown though and is technically in Cape Elizabeth. Anyway thats a few ideas. If anyone has any other questions feel free.
