Coolest part is you can type in words to get a custom number.

I'd use it more if apple would approve the application for the iphone. Sounds like at&t is behind them blocking it.

i got a nashville number that spells out canyard haha.
i'm not sure i will ever use it much unless they do indeed release an iphone app. i don't really want to start giving out another number to people just to gain the conveniences of google voice. great idea, but huge investment to actually start using it |

Sign up at the website. I don't think invites are given out, or at least I don't have any.

Seems pretty simple to me. One "Google" number you give out to people that can be linked to all your phone numbers. You control where calls go. If
you're at work for a long day, set the calls to go there. If you're out of town, send them to your cell. If there's someone you hate talking to,
program it to go right to VM. If you're waiting on an urgent call from your wife, send it to all your phones.
It looks like it could be an easy way to link all of your phones and control who can reach you and when.

I haven't looked at it but how easy is it to get your own area code? I'm moving soon but would hate to change my cell phone number just so some people
don't have to call long distance. if you call someone does their caller id show the google voice number or the actual number?

aren't most cell phones plans long distance included?
and like I said BWilly, didn't look it up at all so actually had no idea what it was. I might have to look at this. |

you can get your area code easily... they just offer you the ability to spell out words. if you expand area codes, you have a much higher likelihood of getting
that
irish, yes, LD is usually included. but, what google will do is have really cheap international rates, which cell phones most definitely do not right now |

Does your cell phone dial into the GoogleVoice service to work? Like if you have a cell phone/plan that does not work internationally, can you use that phone
when travelling since it is running through Google?

ksc218 wrote: You can decide what you want your caller ID to say in the online settings. Best part: You can tell your cell phone provider that your Google number is one of your "Fave 5" numbers and then basically all calls are FREE. One problem: Outgoing calls from your phone won't show up as your Google number unless you call your google number first, then dial the persons number you are trying to reach. They have apps for blackberrys and android phones that will automatically do that for you though. I'd sign up for it now, get a number you want, then see if it gets better because it most likely will. if you don't like it not big deal cause its free. I have a feeling its going to be getting better and better. |
