Posts: 491 06/01/2009 11:29 AM	Tags : None Hey, All, I'm heading to Fiji tomorrow for a couple of weeks... wondering if anyone here has been there? Anything to recommend? We're staying on a sailboat with a total crew of 4 (including us) nearly the whole time, sailing around the Mamanucas and Yasewas... then staying in a beach bure/hut at Musket Cove Resort for the last two nights. Bittersweet... yes, the civil unrest is a bit unsettling, but from what we hear, it's mainly over in Suva on the East side of the island... we'll be on the west coast the whole time, and away from cities. The current dictator fired all of the judges and closed all of the courts a couple of months ago, basically erasing the justice system, but he took so much heat that he reinstated the judges a couple of weeks ago. Gotta love a good coup. Bader - I'll let you know how it is. We just went to a dive shop here in Boulder to get snorkling gear and the girl there said that Fiji is her favorite place in the world to visit for diving and vacations... she's taking her 3rd trip there this coming winter. Alright, all... gotta go pack. Thanks to all of you who voted for us in that Westword thing, btw... it runs through June 15, so I'll find out how we did when I get back. Posts: 493 06/13/2009 2:39 PM	Just got back from Fiji, and I'd recommend it to anyone (Bader!)... incredible place and not touristy at ALL. I kinda figured it might be like Mexico or Hawaii... resort-y and crowded... but it's not at all. It's 330 islands, of which only 88 are inhabited. We were on a sailboat the whole time, and for much of the sailing around, we didn't see a single other boat. Visited a village of 500 people, brought them traditional kava root for the chief of the village, parked the boat in empty coves to eat and sleep for the night, snorkeled all over the place, yadda yadda.
