I am taking the lady friend to San Diego in late March, and on the way back, we are landing at noon in Vegas and leaving the next day at 2 pm or so. Neither
of us have ever been, so I would like to stay on the strip for the night and take in as much as we can...
where do you recommend that we stay for that one night? Im not looking to spend a couple hundred bucks...id like to keep it reasonable. also, are there any
good discount hotel websites that you use? I have looked at hotels.com and expedia, but i know vegas is always offering some deals!! tia!

most "new strip" hotels will probably be in the range of $150-200 for a weekend night, but cheaper on weekdays (depending on which conferences are in
town). if you want to keep it really on the cheap, either way at an older hotel (e.g., trop or flamingo), a lower class hotel (e.g., wild wild west), or an
off-strip or even downtown hotel. there is even a motel6 RIGHT off the strip that would let you walk anywhere.
for vegas, use http://www.travelaxe.com/ if you stay at an off strip hotel, you can easily catch a cab in and walk it from there - it's very easy to do! i prefer strip hotels out of pure convenience and quality of casinos, but it's DEFINITELY not a necessity if you're just taking in the sights

i found a few with great reviews off the strip, but i just like the convenience factor of being on the strip. unfortunately the night we are staying is a saturday. but oh well...6 nights in san diego wont be so bad!! there are so many hotels in vegas, it probably doesnt matter which one i pick. the cab will be my best friend...only for 24 hours though |

Now, I will be the first to admit that if you are taking a lady somewhere, this place is not impressive. It is however usually somewhat cheap and right in the
middle of the action (across the street from Ceasers). If you are just looking for a shower and a bed for a few hours of sleep, this place will treat you
right.

well that is what i want to do, I was thinking the Mirage, which looks affordable but nice....but there are two factors nicholas...
1) i will be there for 24 hours, so i am not sure how much time will be spent in the room? 2) we are going to be in San Diego from the 21st until the 28th, so i know there will be boatloads of money spent on that little adventure |

the mirage is pretty solid. just dont stay at some of those terrible places other people suggested. ie bills gambling saloon.

for a nice hotel, take the gal to Paris

you should see bellagio and wynn casinos - both are awesome and really beautiful.
for sight seeing, be sure to walk through the venetian as well and maybe take a boat ride. if you like amusements, hit up the roller coasters at new york, new york or even the top of the stratosphere. |

I know they got bought out by Harrah's (I think it was Harrah's at least) but I thought they were keeping it open. dont be cheap. its only 1 night, stay at a nice hotel. wynn, bellagio, encore, mandalay/thehotel, ceasars, venetian. what the point? you use the room in Vegas for sleep only. And that is only like 4 hours a day. You may sit and pregame before you head to the club, but thats about it. If you are sitting in your room, awake, for longer than an hour in Vegas, you are missing something. The only way I wouldn't go cheap in Vegas is if you plan to actually hang out by the pools. Then you want to spend some money because nicer pool equals nicer hotties. But even most of the pools you can pay a cover and get in if you are not a guest. I would definately walk through New York, New York and Paris. Ceasar's is pretty cool too. The Venetian is gorgeous but I never really got into the shops area (where the boats are). I am pretty sure you don't have time in only one day, but The Freemont Street Experience, while very cheesy, is something visitors to Vegas should see. But its downtown, and you are staying on the Strip (10-15 minute cab ride depending on traffic) so you may not want to go see it. I didn't until my second time in Vegas. |

i found the mirage for 137.50, i think that is a pretty good deal. i noticed the stratosphere is pretty cheap (under 100) and doesnt look too bad, but pictures
rarely tell the whole story. i think well just check in there that afternoon, walk around, eat some food, win lots of money, etc. i saw some places on
freemont, and some of them offer free shuttles to the mgm, and that seems like a good deal to me. hitch a free ride to the action, get a free ride back, and
then maybe check out the freemont street exp
i noticed all of these hotels flaunt their cheap awesome buffet...are those things i should stay away from in order to not be stuck in the bathroom all day or are they pretty good? |

stratosphere is pretty damn far from the main strip - definitely a cab ride. freemont isn't all that horrible - it's neat to see the original
"strip". the shuttles in are a good deal as well
most buffets are decent. even the bellagio buffet is like $15 and is all you can eat and fantastic. just because you're not saying at the hotel doesn't mean you can't eat there.

ok - stratosphere eliminated. freemont sounds cool, ill definitely check that out kraut
i am a big fan of quality buffets. i was just hoping it wouldnt be similiar to the buffet highlighted on vegas vacation. which reminds me: cant wait to bet some sports there! I will be there during ncaa tournament = AWESOME |
