that's hilarious coming from a red sox fan...
Sharkey has it right above. He's a neutral third party and he sees it.

championships are the only thing that matters. everything else is a moral victory. nobody gives a fuck what you do in the playoffs if you don't win it all.

People who desperately need their team to be considered the 'team of the decade' care what else you do in the playoffs, because they need that kind of
moral victory.
yankee fans are an interesting creature right now. they're the greatest ever because they're champs again, but they still continue to feel inferior to the red sox. never thought i'd see that day. |

Cubs choke was epic. I would say being up 3-0 in a series and ahead in the ninth inning of game 4 only to lose the series was more epic though. some how that excaped my memory. But the yankees choked for one year. The cubs choked the whole decade just about. |

LOL feel inferior to the sox? Nope. The Yankees are the most successful professional sports franchise in the history of this country.
Sharky, maybe YOU don't feel that winning the division or the pennant is that important, but I do. Of course I was upset when we got to the Series in 2001 and 2003 and lost, but I was still damn proud that my team made it that far. It's weird because when Yankees fans make the World Series and lose and some of us whine, we get called "spoiled" and yet when someone like myself actually cherishes making it, what does that make me? We get assaulted no matter what. I understand what you're saying though. We'll agree to disagree on this one. I do still think that "Most Successful of the Decade" goes to the Yankees though. They've tied the Red Sox in WORLD championships but have them Sox beat in every other category. |

Take your most successful or team of the decade title, but there is one thing you can't argue...
The 2004 New York Yankees are the biggest choke job team in the history of baseball, and arguably, of all professional sports franchises in the history of this country, as you so dramatically put it. Oddly, that happened this decade as well. C'est la vie. |

Now, if you believe the Pats Super Bowl was a bigger choke than the 2004 ALCS you can't know anything about the history of sports. Losing one game is much, much less significant than losing 4 straight. As far as I can imagine, the only thing worse than the Yankees loss in '04 would be for something like that to happen in the World Series, but even then it would be questionable because the Sox/Yankees rivalry is by far the best in baseball. Maybe if the Cubs were up 3-0 and then blew the WS*, then it would be the worst choke ever, but thats about the only thing getting the Yankees off the hook. There are plenty of teams littered in sports history who were upset in the championship game, and some other undefeateds if you count college. It was a valid point to bring up, but if you truly believe that is was worse than I don't know what your reasoning is. *I do not, ever, wish this upon the Cubs or their fan base. That would just be too cruel. |

1- 2004 Yankees are easily bigger chokers than the 2007 Patriots.
2- Trabs- I don't agree to disagree. I agree you're an idiot and that myself & every person in this thread who disagreed with you is right. 3- cwag- Every yankee fan who feels the need to jsutify their decade, or point out how they're better than the red sox, or belittle the red sox for only winning twice in the last 6 years (one more than the yankees, ftr), or brag about accomplishments from 60 years before their were born feels inferior. You all may not be big enough to admit it, but I don't see any of the board red sox fans (and there's a lot of them) sitting here debating how they're the team of the decade, not the yankees. I only see it going the other way. |

I agree that the 04 yanks were the biggest chokers in baseball history.
Sharkey, you can make this personal and call me an idiot, but to think you have a one sided argument here is incorrect. Baseball Tonight made the statement of the Yankees being the team of the decade despite their "drought" and every member of the show agreed, even Peter Gammons, who takes it balls deep from Terry Francona and Theo Epstein on a nightly basis. |
