I honestly believe that if O.A.R had tried to maintain their roots in the style of their music and play the raw, less produced, closer-to-the-earth kind of
music we love on their albums after IBNT, they would have burned out by 2007. They'd still be rocking live, but their studio albums would still be shit
compared to IBNT and Risen, ON TOP of which they'd be bone broke (or at least faaaar less successful). Music and lyrics that are found in songs like Risen,
Coalminer, and Any Time Now are one of kind. Night Shift is timeless, and Get Away is just classic. These are songs that are unique, and I do not see how Marc
could have incorporated the metaphorical genius that went into Poker, Black Rock, or Old Man Time as a regular habit in writing new songs for studio recording.
Songs like Poker and City On Down are one of a kind, and trying to imitate that style and only that style, even from the band that wrote the song, for 5 years,
is impossible. I'd much rather they release a fantastic album that goes away from their roots than they pathetically cling to their roots in a shitty
studio album that fails to capture what they put into it 3 albums ago. While they have matured and ventured into other ways of composing and playing in their
studio work, day by day they stay true to the fans and style that got them there by playing classics like Poker, Hey Girl, or not-so-classics like Risen,
Anyway, or even their own stylized cover of Fool In The Rain. The point is that they stick to their roots without ruining the immortality of a song like Poker
by overkilling the style.

It really is. While not as good as IBNT by any stretch, it beats the hell out of SoaS (also a good standalone album) and is very good music, and far more true
to its name than many on this board give it credit for.

As much shit as I'm going to get for this, I actually agree with DelicateFew3 to an extent. From the three major label albums O.A.R. has produced, I
personally feel All Sides is without question the worst, but that's simply my personal opinion. Disregarding their live shows for a few moments, it seems
to me that All Sides has way too many songs that were pushed solely for radio play and radio play only, which made the album fail in my opinion, because for as
many new fans who were gained, many were lost as well. I have no problem with the band changing their style, but most of the album doesn't have a natural
transition feel to me. It seems as if they were actively trying to change their style solely because they thought a broader audience would like it, as opposed
to the band themselves actually liking what they were producing. Perhaps this was not the case, but the only reason I supported All Sides was solely due to the
fact that I have been an O.A.R. fan for quite a few years now. If someone had showed me All Sides without me having any prior knowledge of the band, I would
have hated almost every song on the album. To me, them actively pushing this new style, made them seem like a mediocre alternative rock band. I still love
O.A.R. and will support them every step of the way, but their changing style seems way too forced in my opinion.

Yea, about that. I wasn't just agreeing with DeliateFew, for it seemed that most -- if not all -- his posts consisted of how the band changed just for
popularity, but no reason for pointing out why he felt this way. I was merely explaining why I agreed to an extent with his initial assessment, and trying to
say why I thought it was a valid point. Oh, and the reason I said I knew I was going to get shit is due to the fact that the running theme on this board always
tends to be if someone disagrees with popular opinion (hence my favouritism of an unpopular initial post), he or she gets destroyed for it - it was merely an
opening disclaimer.

I think the band had many goals with All Sides. Yes, they wanted radio play and to become more popular but they also wanted to stay true to their
"true" fans and give us incredible songs. (Whatever Happened, Living in the End, Something Coming Over, Dinner Last Night, What is Mine, The Fallout,
War Song, On My Way) All sides was supposed to be "All Sides" of O.A.R. and they succeeded in producing a record that would give them new fans and
satisfy the die hard fans. So I disagree, though it was a goal, the whole point of All Sides was not to just get popular and get on the radio.
