They seemed to completely move away from the aggressive runs they made in the first half.

with that kind of thinking we'll never win anything. yes, it's good we made the final...but we can't be satisfied with just getting there. they
need to have the mentality that they should win or mediocrity will always be associated with US soccer.

Definitely wasn't good enough for me.
If they gave it everything they had and lost a heartbreaker in the end, I guess I could live with that, since it is just the Confeds Cup. But they didn't. They scored two goals in the first 27 minutes and then just basically hoped Brazil wouldn't score 3 in the last 63 minutes. Once Brazil tied it up, it's like the US couldn't generate any attack, since they hadn't been attacking at that point in over 40 minutes. Awful strategy. I understand when you go up 2-0 you play more defensive, and I'm fine with that. But you don't abandon the attack all together, especially when you're playing a team with Robinho-Fabiano-Kaka, who can score 6 goals in a half. |

the Clint Dempsey goal, while nice, was definitely more luck than anything else. But i understand a team needs some bit of luck, especially against a team like
Brazil. Spector played a great ball in to the box, and dempsey wasnt even looking at the goal. The Donovan goal was a beauty, caught the Brazilians sleeping.
It's almost like we went in to holy-shit-we-are-actually-beating-Brazil-what-the-fuck-do-we-do mode. I agree it was an awful strategy to sit back and try
and play defensively against Brazil. The U.S. just doesnt have the skill and pace to match Brazil's. US didnt have the skill to consistently create scoring
chances. How many times did the US need 2-3 touches to settle passes? Tim Howard and Landon Donovan and Onyewu played out of their minds this tournament
though.
and what the eff was up with Altidore? I thought he played poorly, not running down balls, complaining for fouls. There was one when he got tackled and sat on his ass and the ball rolled passed him. he didnt get up in time and Brazil got the ball. i think Altidore showed his age on Sunday. The Spain and Brazil games were fantastic and the results were great for the U.S. (minus the loss of course) and it put the world on notice that we can play with the best in the world. I do honestly think that both Brazil and Spain underestimated us. The games showed we have the heart to play with the best, i dont think we necessarily have the skill to play with the best. in order for soccer to pick up in the U.S., we need to follow this up with a great showing at the WC next year. If not, we're back to square one. |

^ we all know that relegation will NEVER happen in any of the 4 major U.S. sports. There is just too much money at stake, which, ironically enough, is kind of
the reason European leagues are set up the way they are: top flight talent deserves top flight cash.
the players' unions and owners would never go for it, because it would mean less money in their pockets (if they were relegated). |

according to ESPN's Soccernet, Real Madrid have signed Karim Benzema from Lyon. Article says the transfer fee is 35 million Euros, but could increase
depending on incentives.
as much as i hate the fact that they are buying all the great players, i am anxious to see how they actually play together. |

i will never understand why Barca doesnt want Eto'o. he scored 30 some goals last season and scored the clincher in the UCL final.
i'd rather have Eto'o for sure. Ibra has made too much noise in the last few weeks with "i've won everything i can in Serie A" blah blah blah... during this whole time you didnt hear a peep out of Eto'o. does he have a bad reputation in the club soccer world or something? |

No better reason to bring this thread back up to the top than... MANCHESTER UNITED losing to a team nobody even heard of last year, BURNLEY.
Wait, you ask how we could never heard of their opponents? Oh, because they were promoted to the Premier League just this year and it would be incredible to see them amass even 40-some points all year. BUT THEY ALREADY BEAT MAN UTD! |
