Crazy ending but good to see they got the call right, easy call to make, can't believe how much egypt still complained. Anyone gonna be watching US/Italia?

i dont follow soccer at all. whats the significance of this game? anything to do with the world cup qualifications? i didnt know the thrashers announcer was a
commentator for soccer either
edit: obviously the confederations cup, but do we still have to qualify for the world cup or is all that over? |

This has nothing to do with qualifying for the WC.
It's basically a trial run for the WC host country. Only 8 teams. 7 champions + host country. It's good for the country to get preparation in for the WC next year, and its good for these teams (especially USA) to play some top flight competition. From wiki- The FIFA Confederations Cup is an association football tournament for national teams, currently held every four years. The competition is organised by FIFA. It is contested by the winners of each of the six FIFA confederation championships (CAF, CONMEBOL, UEFA, AFC, OFC, CONCACAF), along with the FIFA World Cup winner and the host country, to bring the number of teams up to eight. The 2009 tournament is currently being held in South Africa.FIFA Confederations Cup

brazil sucked, and got lucky they didnt end up blowing that lead and even losing the match. but who knows how far that lineup is away from the WC lineup, not
to mention a years worth of time away is a lot if they do have issues to sort out.
spain has no issues. they are so damn good. hat trick in 17 min? i love it. their group is much easier though. but they should be in the final regardless of the group setups. i just wish it wasnt likely to be against italy since i cant really stand to watch them play... especially against the US. i feel bad for the US that they got that damn red so early. and that was bad soccer, but honestly didnt have to be a red card. i'm guessing there is no appeal process by video to see if he has to sit out the next game or not. oh well...the US just needs to step it up BIG on defense now! strawdiddy, have you bought any new WhoAreYa t-shirts lately? there's been a lot of new ones and i think i'm gonna buy a few more. I have 4 now. not sure where my green Throwball one is now though...it was too big. thats the one thing i dont like about them - the quality of the shirts is pretty low and the sizes are not the same somehow...i have a medium that fits too tight, a medium that fits perfectly, and a large that i bought first that is WAY too big. |

US would have been in much better shape right now if Egypt had held on to tie Brazil. Now, realistically, we have to beat Brazil tomorrow I feel like.
This Brazil roster is definitely not close to their WC roster. I can't imagine them leaving both Ronadlo & Ronaldinho off the roster. The Italians, on the other hand, are playing with basically their exact WC roster, as far as I can tell. I don't know a lot about the Egyptians, but watching them on Monday, they're a lot more dangerous than people will expect. |

it means the USA blows at Soccer, and the Italians will win the World Cup again

Brazil has 6 points and a +4 differential
Italy has 3 points and a +1 differential Egypt has 3 points and even goals for/against USA has 0 points & -5 differential If we beat Egypt, and Brazil beats Italy, and the combined margin of victory for us & margin of defeat for Italy is 7 or larger, than we advance to the second round. |

And actually my breakdown isn't entirely correct. The margins have to add up to 7, yes, but US has to beat Egypt by at least 3.
