New and improved as in a longer cord? I'll never use one as long as my beverage ends up hanging right between my cans.

the detachable cord is just helpful for times when you just want a koozie. but, the real reason is that it actually makes the manufacturing costs lower to make
it detachable. instead of having to line up a string exactly to be sewn in (or melted in), they can do it after the fact
